Why ChatGPT and Google Don't Recommend Your Business (And How to Fix It)
More people are asking AI before they search Google. If you don't show up there, you're losing customers without knowing it.

Imagine someone in your city types into ChatGPT: "what's the best [your type of business] near me?" The AI answers with 3 or 4 names. If your business isn't one of them, that person never knew you existed — and probably already chose your competitor.
This is already happening every day. More and more people use ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI answers before they type into the traditional search box. And the way AI decides who to recommend is different from how SEO used to work.
Why doesn't AI mention you?
AI learns from what already exists about your business online: your site, reviews, mentions on other sites, and how clear your information is. If your digital presence is thin or confusing, AI simply doesn't have enough to recommend you with confidence — so it recommends someone else who does.
- Your website doesn't clearly explain what you do or for whom
- You have few or no mentions on other sites (authority)
- Your competitors have optimized, up-to-date content
- Nobody is measuring this, so nobody is fixing it
How to actually fix it
The first step is measuring where you stand today — you can't improve what you don't see. Then, the fix almost always comes down to three things: more content that clearly explains your business, more authority (mentions and links from other sites), and making sure your site has no technical errors confusing AI.
None of these three things require you to become an SEO expert. They require someone to do them for you, consistently, and for you to see the progress without guessing. To understand the authority piece in depth, read backlinks explained.
